Defending the Faith - Week 11

Defending the Faith - Week 11

This week we cover in depth the exciting findings of extra-Biblical (non-biblical documentations that supports the Bible) and Biblical archaeological artifacts that provide validation to the truthfulness of the Bible.  We begin with third-party verification like the Sumerian King List that actually predates the flood.  Other findings include records of the Tower of Babel and the confusing of the language, and captivity of Israel and Judah into captivity.  This is an exciting topic to learn about the vast amount of findings that support the Bible’s claims.  And lastly, we go over the Dead Sea Scrolls which provide ~26,000 pieces of manuscripts to also include full scrolls like the Isaiah, Deuteronomy, Psalms, and Daniel scrolls.  There are so many findings that one would spend a lifetime studying them and still only be touching the surface!

Defending the Faith - Week 10

Defending the Faith - Week 10

This week we dive into the background of the Bible.  How the Bible is broken down and the literary types of the Bible.  We will cover how the Bible is the only religion that has detailed prophecy that has been fulfilled.  Also, we will cover how the Bible came to be, how the priests kept the Bible accurate, as well as why the Old Testament canon, which has 39 books, and the New Testament canon, which has 27 books, will never change or be added to or taken from.  Books like the ones from the Apocrypha and the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Judas Iscariot, and many other books that are well known to be heretical will never be considered to be part of the canon of God’s Word.  And finally, we begin discussion on the extra-Biblical and Biblical archeological findings that provide validation to the truthfulness of the Bible.

Defending the Faith - Week 9

Defending the Faith - Week 9

This week we cover some foundational theology points—the attributes of God.  Even though this is not a theology course, it is essential that a foundation of theology is laid.  Attributes like God’s holiness, immutability (the same today as He was yesterday), Love, Wisdom, and so forth.  By understanding these attributes of God, we will have a firmer foundation to stand on when defending the faith.  Also, with this knowledge of theological terms comes an understanding of proper meaning or interpretation of scripture (exegesis) and not having your own, biased opinion (eisegesis) of scripture and thus arming yourself to identify when people try to use the scripture to answer agendas or misrepresent what the Bible actually says.

Defending the Faith - Week 8

Defending the Faith - Week 8

This week we highlight over some of the many scriptures that call us to God’s glory like in Psalms 19:1-4.  We also see God’s glory being displayed in Genesis when He creates the heavens and earth (Genesis 1:1).  We see God is the one who creates everything.  The Hebrew word being used here is bara‘ בָּרָא which means to shape, fashion, create (always with God as subject) of heaven and earth.  We see here that Bible records God’s creation account.  In the upcoming weeks we’ll learn why this is important and how to arm ourselves with the Word to defend the faith and give hope to those who need it.

Defending the Faith - Week 7

Defending the Faith - Week 7

This week we dive into identifying that the Creator we have been describing is none other than our God YAWEH.  There are many religions out there; some in which claim that their god is the creator or some who say that we share the same god.  We need to ask, “Can all religions be correct?” Then we begin to look at the logical consistency of that religion.  The Bible is consistent, the Bible is dependable, and the Bible is reliable.  God’s fingerprints are shown throughout scripture.  He is the Master Author and He has chosen 40 authors to carry His message through 1600 years, 3 continents, and a multitude of literary type of works and still carries a unified message—the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe creates everything, the creation falls to sin, God sends His son Jesus to die on the cross and takes God’s wrath for our sins if they repent and believe that He is their Lord and Savior, then He restores the sinner to Jesus’ own righteousness, and then adopts us as heirs with His Son.
