Gifted for Gratitude: In Baptism, the Holy Spirit has Gifted the Body of Christ

Gifted for Gratitude: In Baptism, the Holy Spirit has Gifted the Body of Christ

Do I know my gifts? Am I using my gifts?

You may have heard the saying, "Don't GO to church… BE the church!" God says BOTH are true. He tells the church to meet together to encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24-25), and also to be out in the world living and sharing Gospel grace and truth (Matthew 5:16, Romans 10:14).

Our local church family, Emmanuel, is blessed with many members. Together, as baptized followers of Christ, we are "called out" to "be Christ" in our Dayton community. This happens most beautifully and effectively when each one uses the gifts God has given to serve in our church's worship and equipping, as well as in our church's outreach and sharing.

Emmanuel, deepen my desire and increase my fervor to know and use the gifts you have given me. Help me support my fellow brothers and sisters at Emmanuel to know and use their gifts. Help me excel in worshiping, witnessing, and working in Your Kingdom. Keep me sensitive to Your Spirit's leading and steadfast in my trust. For Jesus' sake, Amen.

When we leave "4865 Wilmington Pike" each Sunday, Emmanuel goes with each of us to our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, recreational events. We are still the "Body of Emmanuel" in our world! To Him be the glory, Amen.

Points to Ponder – If God has gifted every Christian and all Christian Churches so that they “do not lack any spiritual gift”, why are Christians and churches lackadaisical and lazy in their worship, witness, and working in the Kingdom of God? How can we help one another as Christians and Churches to see the AWESOMENESS, FAITHFULNESS, WISDOM, LOVE, AND POWER OF GOD that would move us to a more wholehearted worship, witness, and work in the Kingdom of God? What next steps can your CG take to "live in and live out" the Gospel?

READ 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 (NIV)

4 I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way--in all your speaking and in all your knowledge-- 6 because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
